Purdue football has gone through quite a transformation over the past 11 years with coach Tiller. I tell my friends this stat and it sounds more pathetic every year, but before Joe Tiller came to Purdue from Wyoming Purdue had been to FIVE bowl games since the mid 1890′s. Yes, 1890-something until 1997. Since 1997 Purdue has been to a bowl game in 10 of the last 11 years.

Yes, it will probably be Tiller Field when he decides to leave. And yes, Purdue alumni should be happy. Unfortunately, since 1998 when Drew Brees shocked the nation by upsetting Kansas State, Purdue fans and alumni have grown tired of just getting to a Bowl.

For the most part over th past 10 years Purdue has played outstanding competition including K-State in 1998, but this year Purdue drew Central Michigan, winners of the MAC conference, and Purdue Fans are not happy. I do and I don’t understand this graphic. What this tells me is that Purdue fans think the team should be better and don’t feel like they should be relegated to the Motor City Bowl. This is crazy.

I just finished watching a great game where Purdue actually came back and delivered on a one minute drive down the field to kick a game winning field goal with no time on the clock and I’ve got to say, this is a hell of a lot more fun than watching them get killed on New Years Day by some SEC school.

Purdue, in typical Purdue football fashion, jumped out to an early lead but then relaxed on defense and nearly gave up the game. I’ll spare you from the play by play. You can read all that here on Espn.com Painter shines with Purdue-record 546 passing yards, 3 TDs. Purdue did come back to with the game 51 to Central Michigan’s 48.

What makes me mad is that I think the Purdue fans and alumni need to remember the statistic five bowl games before 1997, before Tiller. I’d like to see the local new paper run another poll asking Purdue fans if they think this was a satisfying win or not. I think it was.
